All LMD
databases use a custom-designed software interface running on Windows
PCs.
PC with Pentium processor and CD-ROM drive, 32 MB RAM, 150 MB free hard disk space, VGA monitor with 800 x 600 screen resolution and, Internet Explorer 4.0 or better. The software is compatible with all versions of Windows, but see notes below for issues with Windows Vista.
Windows Vista Issues
N.B. It has recently (Jan 2008) come to our attention that LMD installations on some versions of Windows Vista are unstable. Problems may include the program not opening or searches not functioning. The temporary workaround for these issues is to EITHER:
a) Uninstall the LMD software and reinstall to a directory that is NOT in the default C:/Program Files folder.
OR
b) Run the LMD program as Administrator, by right-clicking on the program icon before launching and selecting 'Run as Administrator". This option can be set permanently by right clicking the program icon, selecting Properties--> Shortcut tab-->Advanced and ticking the checkbox ' Run as Administrator'.
We are working to fix these issues and hope to have a solution in the next few weeks. Users should also note that the LMD Help does not currently work under Vista - this problem will also be fixed in the next release.
Non-Windows Environments and Network Installations
While LMD databases are designed for Windows, users have reported success in running the software without problems under various Windows emulation software, incuding Wine on Linux. However, London Medical Databases is unable to directly support such installations. Network installations are designed for Windows-based client-server networks where the the client software is installed directly on a user's machine, accessing data on hard drive on a remote server that can be locally mounted. London Medical Databases is unable to provide technical support for installations on other types of network ( e.g. Microsoft Terminal Services, Citrix Presentation Server or Novell Open Enterprise Server) due to the fact that we simply do not have the resources to adequately test the programs in these environments. However, given that it is written using the established Borland Delphi Windows application programming environment, LMD software may well function effectively over these networks.
